BESTHORPE PRIMARY SCHOOL - THE PLACE WHERE EVERYONE CAN SUCCEED

NATIONAL CURRICULUM

BROAD AND BALANCED

At Besthorpe we offer a broad and balanced curriculum where every child is encouraged to build on good foundations and develop their individual talents and interests.

KEY STAGE ONE AND KEY STAGE TWO

Key Stage One is the Infant Stage - Years 1&2.

Key Stage Two is the Junior Stage - Years 3,4,5 & 6.

All of these children study the National Primary Curriculum.

The curriculum includes the core subjects of English, Maths, Science and Information Technology plus a range of foundation subjects including Art, History, Geography, Music, Design and Technology, Physical Education and Religious Education.

Every day the children take part in the required National Literacy and National Numeracy lessons. The majority of other subjects are taughts through projects planned by the year group teaching team. Some individual subject teaching takes place, particularly in music and sport.

The Governors of the school have agreed that Sex and Relationships Education will be taught as an inclusive part of project work and questions will be handled sensitively as they arise.

The whole curriculum is extended through the use of specialist teachers and educational visits.
