BESTHORPE PRIMARY SCHOOL - THE PLACE WHERE EVERYONE CAN SUCCEED

ABOUT THE SCHOOL

The school was built in 1879. It is eight miles north of Newark and its catchment area comprises the villages of Besthorpe, Girton and South Scarle.

There are two classrooms, the larger of which also serves as a whole school teaching area and dining room. There is a cloakroom, toilet area, disabled showering facilities, office, staffroom/work area and a community room. There are two hard surfaced play areas and the school has fill use of the large playing field opposite the school.

Currently the staff comprises the head teacher, two part time teachers, a full time and a part time teaching assistant.

The pupils are grouped flexibly by need, age, ability or by key stage. We have a cleaner-in-charge and cook/mid-day supervisor. Our administrator works in school three days a week and we use the services of a sports coach, a French teacher and tutors from the instrumental and music teaching service.

We belong to the Tuxford School family and work closely with the other schools in the family. We are also part of a cluster with two other small schools at Harby and North Clifton. We constantly seek ways of developing these links to offer both staff and pupils enhanced opportunities for extending the curriculum.

Staff, governors and pupils aim to celebrate the unique nature of our very small school through a nurturing ethos, good relationships and a welcoming family atmosphere. We are developing a curriculum within with we not only address the individual needs of the huge range of age and differentiation in the teaching groups but also in the way in which we can explore integrated links between subjects. The school has an important place in the local community and is extending its role to include extended services.
